If you are a high school student and want to learn how brands grow, connect with customers, and influence what people buy, a marketing internship can help you. NASA’s Office of STEM Engagement offers internships for high school students at locations across the country. In these internships, you can work on real NASA projects with a mentor. There are different types of roles, like marketing, business, communication, journalism, graphic design, public relations, and advertising. For the Social Media Internship, NASA needs students who are familiar with social media and can share information clearly. You will use skills like writing, creating posts, and telling stories online. You will work with internship contacts across NASA to help make a plan for how the agency shares information about its internships. This is a full-time remote role in Maryland.

2. Ladder Internship Program

Location: Virtual

Cost/Stipend: Starting at $2,490 (financial aid available). No stipend

Acceptance rate/cohort size: Moderately selective 

Dates: Multiple cohorts throughout the year, including Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter

Ladder Internships is a selective start-up internship program for ambitious high school students! In the program, you work with a high-growth start-up on an internship. Start-ups that offer internships range across a variety of industries, from tech/deep tech and AI/ML to health tech, marketing, journalism, consulting, and more. Ladder’s start-ups are high-growth companies on average, raising over a million dollars. In the program, interns work closely with their managers and a Ladder Coach on real-world projects and present their work to the company. The virtual internship is usually 8 weeks long.

3. Federal Reserve Bank of Boston’s (TIP) Internship Program

The Today’s Interns, Tomorrow’s Professionals (TIP) Internship at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston is a paid summer program for income-eligible high school students in Greater Boston. It is for students interested in areas like finance, business, and marketing. As an intern, you will work in departments such as financial markets, economic research, and corporate operations. You will build skills for the workplace, get coaching, and learn about personal money management. The program is run by the Regional and Community Outreach department, which matches you with a team at the Bank and supports you through training and enrichment activities.

4. Young Founders Lab

The Young Founder’s Lab is a start-up boot camp founded and run by Harvard entrepreneurs. In this program, you will work towards building a revenue-generating start-up that addresses a complex problem. You will also have the opportunity to be mentored by established entrepreneurs and professionals from Google, Microsoft, and X.

Apart from building the start-up itself, you will also participate in interactive classes on business fundamentals and business ideations, workshops and skill-building sessions, case studies, panel discussions, and more. The program is an excellent opportunity to delve into the world of business in high school and have a space to explore multiple theoretical and practical frameworks that lead to a successful business. 5. KP Launch High School Internship Program (Sales & Marketing track)

Location: Kaiser Permanente Medical Center headquarters, or hospitals and medical offices across Northern California

Cost/Stipend: No cost. Interns receive a stipend of $24 per hour

Acceptance rate/cohort size: Highly selective 

Dates: June 16 –  August 1

Application deadline: January 6

Eligibility: High school students or graduating seniors of ages 16-19 by June 1; priority for juniors and senior-level students. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the U.S.

The Kaiser Permanente Launch Internship Program gives you real experience and helps you learn about the healthcare industry and related fields. You can choose from various tracks, including account management, sales, marketing, and product development. You will work with a mentor and learn how marketing works in healthcare. You will build skills in communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and business planning. You will also attend weekly workshops to grow your professional skills. This seven-week paid program can help you start your marketing career while giving you practical experience in the healthcare world.

6. Smithsonian Science Education Center Internships

Location: Virtual or in-person (Smithsonian Science Education Center, Washington, DC)

The Smithsonian Science Education Center works to improve K-12 education with communities worldwide. They create STEM lessons and digital resources, train STEM teachers, and support leadership in STEM education. As an intern, you can choose roles in communications, marketing, or public relations. You will use skills like writing, editing, design, and organization to help create marketing and communication materials. You will also help share information, manage content, and follow a communication plan. You will learn how a communications team works each day and how to use marketing materials to strengthen the SSEC brand.

7. Young Entrepreneurs Program (YEP)

Location: Kansas City, MO

Cost/Stipend: None; $2,500 scholarship ($1,250 per session) upon completion of the program and compensation of $12-14 per hour

Dates: Session 1: June 2 – June 27, Session 2: July 7 – August 1

The Young Entrepreneurs Program is a paid internship for Kansas City high school students. You will learn about careers in business, finance, engineering, and marketing. You will work with local professionals, get real work experience, and have a mentor to guide you. YEP partners with high-growth startups, and you will be matched with a company suited to your interests. You will also join networking events where you can meet people who can help you in your career.

8. The Met Internship Program for High School Students

Location: The Met Fifth Avenue, New York, NY

Cost/Stipend: No cost. Interns are paid a stipend of $1,100 upon completion

Acceptance rate/cohort size: Moderately selective

Eligibility: High school juniors and seniors based in and around New York City

The Met offers fully funded marketing internships each year for high school students interested in art, design, architecture, and creative work. As an intern, you will meet and learn from museum professionals and experts in areas like marketing, research, social media, law, and education. You can choose an internship that runs during the school year or one that takes place in the summer. If you know how to use Illustrator, Photoshop, and social media, you will use those skills in real nonprofit projects. You will research possible partners and help with the organization’s marketing work.

10. Meta Summer Academy

Eligibility: High school sophomores, full-year residents of East Palo Alto, Belle Haven, North Fair Oaks, or Redwood City with a minimum GPA of 2.0

At Meta Summer Academy, you will learn how a large social media company works daily. You will understand how different teams operate and learn from leaders and experts in the field. You will also build skills in communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and time management while working in a technology hub. In the six-week program, you will work for 30 hours each week with a mentor from Meta to guide you. You will gain exposure in the tech industry and meet people with years of experience at Facebook and Meta. Meta will provide transportation for all interns, so students from across California can join. Each year, about 200 students are chosen, and it is a very competitive program.

11. Warner Bros Reach Honorship Program - Business Track

Location: Warner Bros. Discovery Studios, Burbank, CA

Cost/Stipend: None; $5,000 stipend paid in four annual installments of $1,250 for college tuition

The Warner Bros Reach Honorship Program Business Track is for graduating seniors from Burbank or Los Angeles County who want to work in corporate or administrative roles in the entertainment industry. You can explore areas like finance, marketing, and communications while learning how film and television production works. You will work with industry professionals and see the daily operations of a major studio. You will use skills like communication, organization, creative thinking, and teamwork. Depending on your role, you might help with creative development, work on marketing campaigns, or support the production of multimedia content. You will also have a mentor to guide you. By the end of the program, you will have real industry experience and a network of contacts that can help you in your future career.

12. Spark Summer Internship Program (Spark SIP)

Spark SIP is a competitive internship for high school students. It offers opportunities in computer science, data science, software engineering, and related fields like engineering, sales and marketing, competitive analysis, market research, and social media content creation. You will choose 5 to 6 projects you want to work on, and each will have a sponsor to guide you. You will build skills in research, problem-solving, communication, and data analysis while working with scholars and industry leaders. One option focuses on engineering sales and marketing, where you could connect computer science with uses in market research and marketing while making meaningful contributions.

13. The Emma Bowen Foundation Summer Internship

You can work in areas like journalism, web development, engineering, marketing, or public relations. Each summer, about 150 students join well-known organizations and take on roles in departments such as advertising, sales, marketing, production, and IT. You will get guidance from mentors, build professional skills, and learn how the industry works through practical experience.

Building-U is a fully remote non-profit that helps high school students in their career and education journey. They are looking for interns to support the business and administrative side of their work, with a focus on marketing. This internship lasts for three months. Once selected, you will join a team such as marketing, research and development, or business development. You will use skills like communication, organization, problem-solving, and teamwork to complete different tasks. Each role gives you real experience and lets you contribute to the organization’s goals while learning how a non-profit operates.
