1. NYU ARISE Program

Eligibility: Rising high school juniors and seniors who are New York residents 

The NYU ARISE program is a free, 10-week summer opportunity where you’ll gain both training and direct experience in research. During the first four weeks, you’ll complete safety training, writing workshops, and learn essential research skills before moving into six weeks of lab work. You will work on real projects in one or more of the over 80 NYU labs, collaborating with faculty and graduate students. By the end of the program, you will have accumulated approximately 120 hours of lab experience and will have presented your work at the program colloquium and at the American Museum of Natural History’s Poster Symposium. The program also offers college application assistance, networking opportunities, and a $1,000 stipend.

2. Veritas AI

Location: Virtual

Cost: Varies based on program type; financial aid is available

Dates: Multiple 10- to 15-week cohorts in a year, including winter, fall, spring, and summer.

Eligibility: High school students | AI Fellowship applicants should either have been AI Scholars participants or have some familiarity with AI concepts or Python.


Veritas AI runs virtual programs designed to help you understand both the theory and application of artificial intelligence. In the
AI Scholars program, you’ll take ten sessions focused on core concepts of machine learning and data science, with guidance in small-group settings. If you’re already comfortable with the basics, the AI Fellowship gives you the opportunity to work one-on-one with mentors from top universities on a research project of your choice. Many past students have chosen to explore areas like healthcare, finance, or climate science, with some aiming to publish their work in high school-level journals. Because the programs are online, you can join from anywhere while still building research experience under the mentorship of experts. 

3. Stony Brook University – Simons Summer Research Program

Location: Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, NY

Eligibility: Currently in junior year of high school (11th grade); at least 16 years old by the start of the program

During the Simons Summer Research Program at Stony Brook University, you’ll collaborate with faculty mentors on research projects in science, math, or engineering, often engaging with innovative areas such as machine learning and robotics. The program assigns you to a lab where you become part of an active research team and undertake a specific project. Throughout the program, you'll acquire research skills, attend weekly lectures by faculty, and participate in workshops designed to deepen your understanding of scientific investigation. The experience concludes in a research abstract and poster, which you’ll present at the closing symposium, and you’ll also receive a stipend for your work.

4. Horizon Academic Research Program (HARP)

Location: Virtual 

Cost: Varies by program

Dates: The spring and fall cohorts run 15 weeks, while the summer cohort runs 10 weeks (June-September)

Application deadline: Multiple deadlines throughout the year for the Spring, Summer, and Fall cohort

Eligibility: High school students with good academic standing (>3.67/4.0 GPA) can apply. Most accepted students are 10th/11th graders! Only a couple of tracks require formal prerequisites, more details of which can be found here.

Horizon Academic gives you the chance to conduct a trimester-long research project under the mentorship of a Ph.D. scholar. You’ll choose a subject track — such as machine learning, data science, or medicine — and then work closely with your mentor to develop a 20-page academic paper. The program covers both quantitative research, like analyzing data sets, and qualitative approaches, such as policy or theoretical studies. Throughout the term, you’ll receive detailed feedback on your progress, preparing you to refine and strengthen your paper for possible submission to journals. Many students use this research paper in college applications, and Horizon provides a recommendation letter upon completion.

5. TECH360: Intro to AI

Location: America on Tech (New York City)

Eligibility: Rising high school juniors and seniors currently attending a New York City (all boroughs), Los Angeles County, Miami-Dade/ Broward County, or Atlanta high school 

TECH360: Intro to AI, organized by America on Tech, is a program that helps you build a clear understanding of how artificial intelligence works and how it is used today. Over the course of the program, you’ll dive into key questions such as the origins of AI, the difference between generative and predictive models, and the ethical issues tied to emerging technologies. Lessons draw on data science and machine learning to explain how AI tools are developed and how they are shaping the workforce and daily life. The program culminates in a group project where you and your peers design an AI-powered tool to present to mock clients, with the strongest projects showcased at Demo Day.

6. Kode with Klossy Summer Camps 

Location: Multiple locations, including NYC

Cost: Free

Dates: Multiple two-week sessions from June to August

Eligibility: Open to girls, gender nonconforming, and trans students between the ages of 13-18

Kode With Klossy runs free two-week summer camps for high school students from underrepresented genders in STEM, offering tracks that cover coding, data science, and artificial intelligence. In the AI and machine learning curriculum, you’ll explore concepts such as algorithms, natural language processing, and datasets while building projects like a Python-based chatbot. Another track focuses on data analysis, where you’ll work with SQL, Python, and visualization tools to draw insights from data and present your findings through a project tied to your own interests. The program also encourages discussion of topics like bias in AI, helping you understand both the opportunities and challenges of working in technology.

7. NYU IDEA Program

Through NYU’s Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurial Applications (IDEA) program, you’ll study how artificial intelligence intersects with innovation and business. You’ll analyze case studies, assess gaps in existing businesses, and transition from ideation to implementation by working on team projects. The AI+Art Summer High School Program gives you the chance to experiment with how artificial intelligence can be used as a creative tool. Spread over two weeks, you’ll learn the fundamentals of generative AI models, explore how they function in visual art, music, and animation, and then apply them to your own projects. The program balances academic learning with critical discussion, including examining the ethical and social implications of AI in creative fields. In Stony Brook University’s week-long AI and Self-Driving Precollege Program, you’ll explore how machine learning and neural networks are applied to autonomous vehicle technology. Through a combination of lectures and hands-on activities, you’ll work with remote-controlled cars to see how data collection and training models can turn a manually driven vehicle into one that operates on its own. You will learn about deep neural networks such as CNN and ResNet with PyTorch, gaining basic understanding of self-driving algorithms. Most of your time will be dedicated to testing RC vehicles, training models, and watching demonstrations of self-driving systems.

10. Stony Brook University Precollege Program – Engineering Problem-Solving with AI

In this one-week pre-college course at Stony Brook University, you’ll learn how engineers use computational tools and artificial intelligence to address challenges in mechanics, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics. With guidance, you’ll practice coding in MATLAB and Python while also using generative AI tools to assist with problem formulation, debugging, and analysis. You’ll dive into core engineering concepts and then apply them in hands-on projects, such as modeling motion, analyzing energy systems, or studying fluid flow. The week concludes with a capstone project where you’ll present your solution to a problem that integrates the skills you’ve built.

11. NYU’s Machine Learning Program

The curriculum includes topics like neural networks, cross-validation, and linear regression, providing hands-on experience in developing and testing models. Daily assignments and weekly projects allow you to apply your knowledge to real-world scenarios, such as image and speech recognition, medical diagnostics, and traffic management. Additionally, you'll have opportunities to collaborate with peers, work independently, and participate in campus activities, including events and field trips around New York City.

12. Syracuse University: Generative AI Summer Institute

In the NextGen Bootcamp Python Data Science and AI Machine Learning program, you’ll spend two weeks in New York City gaining hands-on experience with one of the most widely used programming languages in technology. The course begins with the fundamentals of Python, gradually building up to more advanced programming tasks. In the second half, the focus shifts toward data science and machine learning, where you’ll use libraries such as Pandas, Matplotlib, and scikit-learn to analyze and visualize data. The curriculum covers 45 hours of live, project-based instruction, supplemented by a proprietary workbook, class recordings, and optional one-on-one training.
